Beto Criticizes Obama and Trump on Immigration Policies

Recently Beto O’Rourke attended the “She The People Forum” at Texas Southern University. The forum was the first ever held and focused on issues for women of color including “issues of racial, economic, gender, and social justice.”

When asked whether the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be disbanded, O’rourke replied, “I hear you on this,” “The practices under this president, the practices under the last president where families were broken up. Where you had internal enforcement I think in one year alone in the previous administration 400,000 deportations from inside the United States.”

O’Rourke was referring the year when the Obama administration deported over 400K people in 2012.

While O’Rourke added that he doesn’t believe internal roundups and deportations are necessary he did add, ” We do need to make sure that whoever threatens the lives of our fellow Americans or has used violence that there is accountability” signaling he supports deporting individuals who commit a crime.
