As tensions rise over President Trump’s revenge laden wish to send undocumented immigrants to “sanctuary cities,” some Mayors have voiced support for this proposed idea.
In a tweet filled with frustration, the famous singer wrote, ” I understand helping struggling immigrants, but my city (Los Angeles) isn’t taking care of its own. What about the 50,000+ americans who live on the streets? People who live below the poverty line and hungry? If my state can’t take care of its own, (many are vets,) how can it take care of more?”
Her tweeted prompted many on twitter to respond both supporting and criticizing the diva’s stance on this issue.
President Trump also doubled down via twitter on his stance regarding illegal immigration as issues of homelessness, immigration, and poverty continue to intersect and reach a boiling point in Los Angeles. He tweeted, “those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States!”
Trump’s proposed plan to relocate undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities has caused an uproar on the left and will likely continue to be a divisive issue through the 2020 election.
