Today, Chicago prosecutors dropped all charges against Jussie Smollet, “Empire” actor for allegedly filing a false police report. He was indicted on 16 felony counts but will serve no time in jail.
State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office said, “After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.”
Actor Jussie Smollet’s lawyer Patricia Brown Holmes said that all records related to this case have been sealed and stated “I have no idea what occurred in this case and why it occurred. I can just say things seemed to spiral somewhat out of control. We’ve gotten to a result that is the right result in this case and we’re happy for that.”
While family and co workers have expressed joy over the change in events, the Chicago police superintendent wasn’t as happy stating, “Do I think justice was served? No.”
